Kill Graham-Cassidy Bill Before it Kills Us.

Indivisible RI Rhode ISland, Graham Cassidy

Indivisible RI Rhode Island, Graham-Cassidy GraphicTrumpCare is back and Republicans are as close as they’ve ever been to passing it. There are just 14 days left for the Senate to ram healthcare through reconciliation with just 50 votes. (And it looks like Sen. McCain could vote for this one!) This is TrumpCare’s last stand.
Like the other TrumpCare reincarnations, this bill will:

  • Gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
  • Destabilize the individual market, leaving tens of millions without health insurance.
  • Cut Medicaid expansion funds and replace them with inadequate block grants and, worse, to entice GOP senators to vote for this bill, take Medicaid funds from blue states and give them to red states, such as Texas, who never participated in the ACA Medicaid expansion. Rhode Island would be among 20 states facing devastating Medicaid cuts to the tune of 35% to nearly 60% of Medicaid and insurance subsidy funding.
  • And, of course, women’s reproductive health care is on the chopping block

Like the other ACA repeal and replace proposed legislation, this bill is being rammed through Congress without “regular order” or a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score.

According to the Senate’s parliamentarian, if this bill does not pass the Senate by September 30, the ACA repeal and TrumpCare replacement must start from scratch.

This is why it is essential that Senate Democrats, and our Senators Reed and Whitehouse, act now to Kill The Bill using a strategy of withholding their consent and instituting a filibuster by amendment (vote-a-rama).

Today’s Calls: Senators Reed and Whitehouse

Topic: Urge Sen. Reed and Whitehouse to withhold consent and filibuster by amendment (vote-a-rama) as soon as the Graham-Cassidy TrumpCare bill is brought to the Senate floor.

Sen. Jack Reed: (401) 943-3100 or (202) 224-4642
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse: (401) 453-5294 or (202) 224-2921
