September 13th Trump bamboozled House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D – CA) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D – NY) to get what he wanted: funding to keep the government in business through December. Obviously, this ploy was the time he needed to sneak his Trump Tax Scam through Congress.
Last Thursday with his tax giveaway to the rich scheme hung-up in reconciliation, he needed more time and certainly could not afford to have his scam of a tax plan further delayed with a government shutdown.
Nancy and Chuck were once again summoned to the Oval. They gave Trump exactly what he wanted: two weeks of funding which would keep the lights on in DC and get his racist, theocratic boy, the pedophile from Alabama, into the Senate to provide a crucial “yes” vote on his tax scheme. But best of all, he will now have plenty of time to get his well-offs’ welfare tax bill passed.
The two went to the White House determined that no continuing funding resolution would occur without a DREAMers bill to protect the 800,000 DACA American residents. Once Trump cast his spell over them and added the theatrics of a visit to the situation room, they folded like Lehman Brothers and their DREAMERers bluster was just that. They left 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue giving Trump the two weeks he needed to pass his scam and gave DREAMers and the American people the middle finger by not allowing them the time of a government shutdown to work on their Members of Congress with DREAMers and anti-Trump tax scam protests and rallies.
Indivisible National requests:
Thursday night, both the House and Senate passed a “continuing resolution” (CR) to keep the government open for another two weeks — without including a clean DREAM Act. Let us be clear: a vote for the CR was a vote to deport DREAMers — and plenty of Democrats in the Senate and House failed DREAMers. The House passed the CR 235-193, with 14 Democrats voting yes. Just two hours later, the Senate passed their CR 81-14, with 40 Democratic Senators voting in favor.
Democrats had real leverage in this fight, but just eight Senators kept their promises to DREAMers, held their ground, and voted no: Kamala Harris (CA), Mazie Hirono (HI), Ed Markey, Elizabeth Warren (MA), Cory Booker (NJ), Kirsten Gillibrand (NY), Jeff Merkley (OR), and Bernie Sanders (VT).
As a result, in the next two weeks, 1,708 Dreamers will lose their protection under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, an Obama-era executive action that allowed them to apply for work permits and live without fear of deportation.
In the House, Representatives Langevin and Cicilline voted NO on Trump’s two-week funding CR.
In the Senate, Senators Reed and Whitehouse voted YES on Trump’s two-week funding CR.
Today’s Calls: Call Senators Reed and Whitehouse
Message: Urge them (1) to join with the other 7 Senators and take the DREAMers Pledge, and (2) if the DREAM Act is not included in the December 22nd CR, vote NO on additional government spending. Period. No extensions.
