Remember how you felt…

Indivisible RI, Rhode Island, Trump, 2016 Election

Indivisible RI, Rhode Island, Trump, 2016 ElectionSome thought it was impossible that over 60 million Americans could be hoodwinked by a con man to vote for him. Others thought it was only a dream (a nightmare) that they were having and when they woke up, Hillary would be president.
We all know both are true: over 60 million Americans were conned and it is a nightmare.
On January 4, 2017, Indivisible RI (IRI) was formed after watching Ezra Levin, a co-founder of the Indivisible National Team being interviewed by Rachel Maddow. Andy Acciaioli was mesmerized by the interview as he stood in front of the television, realizing that the Indivisible Guide could work to not only thwart the Trump agenda (rooted in corruption, authoritarianism and racism) but it was also the lifesaver he was seeking…and felt that others in Rhode Island would feel the same way.
After three initial meetings were held at Andy’s house, the fourth meeting on January 24th was open to the public. At that meeting and at all other IRI meetings held across the state, that simple “Remember how you felt…” question was asked at the beginning of each Indivisible briefing.
We then proceeded to deliver a message of hope: by joining together and speaking with one voice, our message would be too powerful not to be heard. The next part of each briefing dealt with our two simple actions: make calls and make visits.
As a national organization speaking with one voice we fought the racist travel ban, battled the many attempts to repeal Obamacare and replace it with the deadly TrumpCare, stopped a few horrendous cabinet picks and were instrumental in getting a special counsel appointed to investigate potential Trump-Russia collusion to steal the presidential election.
There was a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and relief once Robert Mueller was appointed.
However, a sense of complacency set in as though it was okay to throttle back on our efforts as Trump would be handled by Mueller and his investigative team. (We constantly remind ourselves: Complacency put Trump in the White House, our complacency will keep him there.)
Now is not the time to let up on the gas.  Now is the time to put the pedal to the metal and give it all we’ve got.
The greatest threat to the Trump presidency is for the US House flipping to Democratic control as a result of the 2018 midterm election. For those of you seeking to have Trump impeached or at least have his agenda stonewalled for the remainder of his presidency, it is essential that you get reinvigorated and renew your resolve to do what it takes over the next eleven months to join us and speak with one voice as we retake Congress.
Come to our Indivisible RI Statewide meeting on January 4th and get renewed and reinvigorated.
